That is fine for appliances that plug into a standard outlet.

However, the greatest users of electricity are the furnace, hot water heater, fridge, and perhaps stove. The outlet for the fridge is inaccessible behind it, and I don't think the watt reader can take that much of a load, so I haven't tried it. The others can't plug into a watt reader.

Those large users are what I would like to check. Does anyone know how to do this without spending too much money?

How much electricity does the oven use? Is more electricity used by baking a stew or turkey in the oven or by cooking them on the stove top (the turkey would have to be cut into pieces)? Is it cheaper to bake several batches of cookies in a toaster oven or the same amount of cookies in a single batch in the oven?

Does doing dishes by hand use more or less electricity than letting the dishwasher do them, if I do dishes by filling the sinks?

How can I do these comparisons?
